Strictly necessary

These cookies are required for basic site function — session handling, security, comment-form submission. They are first-party and short-lived. The site doesn’t work properly without them, so they can’t be disabled from a banner; you’d have to block them at the browser level.

Analytics

Anonymous Google Analytics 4 cookies (_ga, _ga_*) help us understand which guides and tools are useful. These are aggregated — they don’t identify you. You can disable them via the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.

Affiliate tracking

When you click an Amazon affiliate link on this site, Amazon may set its own cookies on your browser as part of its Associates program. Those cookies tell Amazon which referring site sent you, so commission can be attributed correctly. We don’t read those cookies — they live on Amazon’s side. localStorage (not technically a cookie)

Our on-site tools — quiz, size calculator, savings tracker, smart-home planner — store your inputs and results in your browser’s localStorage under a single namespace (hpr.v1). This data never leaves your device. To clear it, either clear your site data in your browser, or click “Reset” on the on-site personalization banner.

Controlling cookies

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies from privacy or site-settings panels. Doing so may break parts of the site — for example, your saved tool results would disappear, and analytics opt-outs may make some features behave differently. Browser-level Do Not Track signals are honored where the underlying service supports them.
